More than that, however, it was a clinical examination of the driving force of the s: human greed, and the way it can seduce ordinary if ambitious people into doing unconscionable things.

Michael Douglas is held in check until the very end, and his only really breakout moment comes when appealing to his daughter for a reconciliation — a scene which is doubly poignant because Douglas was tapping into real-life grief over the issues his own son was having at the time.

Josh Brolin looks mildly confused the entire movie and generates zero charisma as the villain. Even Shia LeBouf, who normally needs zero excuse to bug eyes and bulge neck-veins, seems curiously flat. The mostly lifeless screenplay fails to produce almost any memorable lines, and the one exception «When choosing between evils, I always try sleels one I’ve never had.

Even the ending has a curiously forced «happy ending» feeling to it. In short, the entire project has very little mov what Oliver Stone normally brings to the table, either pro or con.

There is a certain atmosphere to the cinematography and lighting that is memorable, and there are a few moments that do connect with the audience, but that hardly compensates for its overall lack of chemistry and power. Believe me, I really wanted to like this movie. But there are times you can go back to the well and other times you can’t, and sadly, this seems to be one of the.

This movie has a less frantic pace compared to Wall Maks gust of wind approach. The result is an engaging, yet slower meditation on the virtues of money making. This movie’s ethical concerns over profiteering from resources and investments in the economy feels relevant. The family drama is the centerpiece as Stone crafts a hungry stockbroker with Shia LaBeouf who wants his hurt girlfriend Carey Mulligan to rekindle her relationship with her estranged criminal father Michael Douglas.

It’s an interesting premise that leads down a path of misery and trickery. I think Stone’s script is strong, but his direction is merely adequate. He could have had more powerful monologues and conversations that convince of the evil of Gekko’s greed. Instead Stone focuses so much on the family drama aspect that it becomes the only plot that matters in Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

The revenge plot against Josh Brolin feels secondary to anything involving Gekko. Indeed, Gordon Gekko’s presence is felt only in the backdrop, when Michael Douglas should have been center stage. Stone’s direction features nice wide shots and plenty of interesting angles and ideas. The problem is more so his choice of editing. The rapid jump cuts look awkward and jarring. Stone chose very stylized montages that do not work as effectively and informatively as Wall Street’s montages.

This movie uses extended sequences of bad Speeps and amateur hour effects to splice together phone conversations, news reels, television interviews, and stock market statistics to dull effect. Stone shoves too much on screen that it is overwhelming to look at honestly. Douglas commands your attention as Gordon Gekko and repulses you with every line. His foresight on the stock market and insight into the financial world are fascinating to watch as Douglas sheers, jeers, and leers with malicious intent.

His friendly facade is as convincing as he wants it to be. Douglas uses great eye and mouth acting to hint at Gekko’s true intentions. It’s a subtle and fun performance from Douglas, yet not as much of an neger rush as Wall Street’s debut of the character.

Douglas sells Gekko’s kindly turn, but only as a means to an end, while he maintains Gekko’s dominance over the financial game. Shia LaBeouf is pretty solid as an eager and idealistic young stockbroker Jake Moore. His chemistry with Mulligan feel real and his interactions with Douglas are very telling. LaBeouf has to entertain you for this role to work, otherwise Shia sleep just annoy you, but I found him fairly engaging jkv a majority of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

He just gets out acted by Douglas’ brilliant return to Gordon Gekko. Her moral high ground and Earthly persona make Mulligan sleepps likable character. You just know she is right and feel bad for her situation despite her apparent wealth. When Mulligan cries with Douglas on the steps in New York, your heart just breaks for.

Carey Mulligan is seriously talented. His charming and confident billionaire feels closer to Wall Street’s Gordon Gekko. Brolin plays with each person he is on screen with in a manipulative way. Brolin seems totally at ease in the role buying failing companies, praising art collecting, speeding on his motorcycle, lashing out money never sleeps make mkv investors, and manipulating the economy at.

Brolin’s Bretton James is an interesting character that feels like a modern take on contemporary stockbrokers playing with other people’s money. Eli Wallach is fun as Julie Stenhardt. His strange whistling and sarcastic mockery is delightful. Susan Saradon is hilarious as Jake’s needy mooch mother. Frank Langella is amazing as Louis Zabel with his ego desire for a fitting end to his financial dynasty, but also his compassion towards Jake. He plays well for a brief moment alongside Nevef Douglas.

Overall, I wish this movie were better, but the acting is worth watching for. One person found this helpful. My favorite movie of all time is Wall Street. This follow up, though really good, just doesn’t quite hit that level. Now, that might not be fair to judge it in that light, but it’s obviously a follow up to Wall Street so you sort of have to do that in deciding if you like it or not. Having said that, I liked it not only as a sequel but also just as a stand along good story.

Though not necessary to see Wall Street, it certainly would help if you did simply because I don’t think you’d get the point of what’s going on as well if you didn’t. I really did not like the music score. I understand it’s supposed to be more ‘hip’, but I just mlv not care for it.

To me, the score just didn’t mesh with the tone of what the movie was trying to accomplish. Also, some of the acting was just a little forced, though Michael Douglas was just superb in making the transition from the vibrant Gorden Gekko in Wall Street to a more subdued character. Still filled with cunning and greed, he just played his part right for what was needed. Though not anywhere near the number of worthy lines to quote verbatim, Gekko did have some good ones to remember!

All in all, Money Never Sleeps was entertaining, and had no dead spots. The main plot was good, and it neved keeps your attention if you’re into this type of movie. This movie really plays to Michael Douglas’ strengths, and he does a great job, but the rest of the cast was, in my view, completely unconvincing and mismatched for their roles. Further, the ending seemed especially disingenuous, given the characters’ paths in the movie. But it was an entertaining bit of Wall Street truth-telling nonetheless.
